How To Fix A Lava Lamp
The oil in lava lamps is fragile. Shaking the lamp or turning it upside down can damage the water. There are always a few things you can try to restore the magic of a lava lamb and this article will tell you just the right things. Before we begin let me tell you that opening a lid of the lava lamp, voids the warranty. If your lamp is still under warranty then send it back for replacement.
Switch off the lamp for a couple of hours and then switch it back on, then switch it back off as soon as you see the liquid clouding. Do this 5-6 times if problem still exits follow the next steps.
Continuously, use the lamp for around 10 hours, if it still exits move to the next step.
Unplug the lamp and let it completely cool down. Safely unscrew the lid and the pour out all the liquid. Do not try to get the wax lava out it is now cooled to solid.
Now, pour cool, distilled water but not directly on the wax and do not stir or shake it.
Again fill the bottle with distilled water, but remember to leave a 2” air gap at the top. This is important as you have to add one more solution.
With the top lid still off, switch the lamp on and let it run for an hour.
While, it is on you have to prepare a saline solution. Microwave distilled water in a drinking glass for 10-20 seconds and dissolve as much pickling salt into the glass as you can. Strictly, do not use table salt!
Dip just an inch of a drinking straw in the glass and keep your finger on the other end to keep the water in the straw and release it into the lamp. Repeat it after every 10 minutes until some of the wax starts floating to the top of the bottle. Strictly, do not stir or shake the water!
Now, add a small drop of liquid dishwashing detergent this helps in separation of the wax and makes it like rising orbs.
Finally, add a couple of drops of food color to match the wax’s color. Close the lid and screw it back and you lava lamp is repaired!
