How To Fix A Touch Lamp
A touch lamp uses a touch sensor which lets you switch your lamp on/off just with a simple touch of your hand. However it is not a tough job as it needs a lot of patience but it can be more difficult to fix a touch lamp as you first need to disassemble it to replace any of its parts. But this article will help you do it the right and safe way.
Required Materials: Wire Nuts, Fuses, a Soldering Gun, Touch Sensor and Power Control Transistor.
First identify the problem, makes sure it is not a bad bulb or a faulty wall socket.
Safely unplug the touch lamp, and pry off the bottom with the use of a butter knife. Carefully check for the wire connections inside the lamp, if required cut and rewire the wire nuts.
Replace the touch sensor which is located at the base of the lamp. A Touch Sensor is easily available at any electronic supply store. Then follow the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer. The installation is not very complicated as it consists of simple color coded wiring.
Check all the fuses inside the lamp as some of the new touch lamps have soldered-on fuses. Carefully replace the burnt fuses with the fuses that carry the same voltage rating using a soldering gun.
Install a new power control transistor, which is called a thyristor or is also more commonly known as TRIAC which stands for Thirode for Alternating Current. You can easily locate this on the circuit board at the base of the lamp. It is the largest component on the board at mostly the first thing that catches your eye. Carefully remove it and place the new one on the board and carefully solder it into the right place.
